Carteia Roman city

Carteia is an archaeological site in the province of Cadiz, declared of cultural interest in 1968, located in the municipality of San Roque, particularly in the industrial Guadarranquehas a strategic position in the Bay of Algeciras. Punic origin, became a Roman Colony inLibertinorum Carteia, first Latin colony established outside Italic soil, verifying its abandonment in the late or early S. V VI dC, when they are installed in Carteia the Visigoths and later was in Muslim hands.
According to Livy tells one of his writings, the ancient Punic settlement went on to becomeLibertinorum Carteia Cologne in the year 171 a. C., when there were established more than 4,000 men, children of Roman soldiers and Hispanic women. The last occupationcorresponds to the end of S. XVI, at which time stands Rocadillo Towerbeaconmonitoring
